Our Philosophy

In an ever changing world with the economy booming, technology reaching goals only dreamed of a few years ago, two parent wage earners and the relaxed morals of the society we live in many youth find them selves seeking identity, self esteem, and acceptance from their peers. All too often we see youth deviate from the morals and standards of the family and demanding “freedom” to live their lives without restraint from parents, schools and society as a whole. This leads to conflict in some, if not all, areas of a youth’s life.

As we all know there are a number of resources available that are all geared to help youth recognize that his or her conduct is self destructive and detrimental to others.

Those of us involved with Reality Trek have observed and been involved in many different intervention programs and have seen successes and failures with students in every program. However, we believe that an outdoor program is by far the best approach because it allows therapists and counselors to work with youth without man made distractions. It gets a youth back to the basics and they must take some measure of responsibility for their own well being and comfort immediately. It also levels the playing field. Race, economic status, community or school status or where you fit in with your previous associates mean nothing when you are in an outdoor setting with strangers some of which are well trained counselors.

Most if not all outdoor programs start the youth in the program in what is know as an impact situation. The youth is provided with only the essentials to preserve life. They are then taught to progress in the program to earn rewards for more comfort and their lives become more tolerable. We believe this approach causes resentment and resistance and causes the youth to become resentful when they are deprived of what they consider necessities.

Overall Goals

To help our students maximize personal growth and understanding while developing social awareness and interpersonal relationships. We will assist parents and families in improving communications and support as the student participates in an outdoor based program.

Immediate Goals

Help each individual participant realize he or she is a valuable, lovable person with unique attributes.

Help each student increase personal responsibility and integrity, self-reliance, internal motivation, communication skills, academic skills and improve family relationships and social responsibility.

Work with the family to improve family communication and harmony.
